The Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical
Research Network (DRCR.net) is a collaborative network dedicated to facilitating multicenter clinical research of diabetic retinopathy,
diabetic macular edema and associated conditions. The DRCR.net supports the
identification, design, and implementation of multicenter
clinical research initiatives focused on diabetes-induced retinal disorders.
Principal emphasis is placed on clinical trials, but epidemiologic outcomes
and other research may be supported as well. The DRCR.net was formed
in September 2002 and currently includes over 150 participating sites
(offices) with over 500 physicians throughout the The DRCR.net is funded by
the National Eye Institute (NEI). The NEI is a part of the National Institutes
of Health, which is the branch of government that funds medical research. Four core centers within the DRCR.net support
overall operation and leadership of the network. The core centers are: the office
of the Network Chair (Neil M. Bressler, MD, Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore,
MD), the Coordinating Center (Director, Roy W. Beck, MD, PhD, Jaeb Center for
Health Research, Tampa, FL), the Fundus Photograph
Reading Center (Director, Ronald P. Danis, MD,
University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI), and the National Eye Institute
(Program Director, Don Everett). |
